About Books & Moore

Books & Moore opened under that name and it's present ownership on July 1, 2007.

The bookstore, the only independent bookseller of new books in Montgomery County, was previously known as "So Many Books" under the ownership of Nancy and Richard Slepicka of Hillsboro. With the decision of Richard and Nancy to retire and devote their time to traveling, the building and the bookstore were sold in the summer of 2007 to the present owner, local attorney Barbara Adams.

Books & Moore is located in the historic Montgomery County News Building on the southwest side of Courthouse Square. The building was built in 1895 by C. W. Bliss, and was owned continuously by four generations of the Bliss family of Hillsboro until the 2007 sale to Barbara Adams.

The bookstore, occupying the first floor of this historic building, is also home of the new Historical Society Museum. A room displaying Montgomery County memorabilia from decades (or centuries) past, the Museum is open anytime the bookstore is open.

Committed to maintaining a presence on Courthouse Square and to serving the needs of the residents of Hillsboro and the surrounding area, Books & Moore concentrates on children's books, books of local interest and special orders while maintaining a full compliment of best sellers, magazines and several local newspapers.

Books & Moore is also proud to carry Matt Hughes T-shirts, posters, DVD's and the Matt Hughes Action Figure. Matt and his daughter Hanna frequently visit the store and sometimes our patrons are surprised to see him there. Matt generously autographs items for our customers!

We also carry Rowe Pottery crocks which features the Historic Montgomery County Courthouse. We also carry postcards, mugs and notecards all featuring our Historic Courthouse.

Books & Moore is also strongly commited to the preservation of local history and carries most every local title still available in print (and some that are out of print)that has relevance to our local history. We carry in stock all of the publications of the Montgomery County Genealogical Society which includes cemetery records, birth and death records, marriage records and other information in conveniently bound volumes. We often feature historic photos of Hillsboro landmarks in our displays or on our walls.

Come experience the joy of quietly browsing through interesting titles in our charming old building! You won't regret the visit!

Barbara Adams
